The New York Finger Lakes Region and Wineries

First, the tour will travel to the Perinton Hills and visit the Casa Larga Winery and Vineyard.  This winery originated as a hobby for the winemaker and has grown into a full fledged business.  The winery tour includes  an overview of the vineyards (types of grapes grown, why this location was chosen, and some information on the growing process of the grapes- the pruning, grape picking-when and how). At the winery visitors will view the wine making process and equipment.  The tour will end with a visit to the Casa Larga wine tasting room to sample different wines made there.

From here the tour will travel along the west shore of Lake Canadaiqua and ascend the Alleghany Plateau to the Naples Valley. Steep ridges and hills bound the valley, some reaching elevations close to 600' above the valley floor. Here the tour will stop for lunch, view local sites and visit the Widmer Wine Cellars.  The Widmer Winery had been established over 150 years ago. At the Widmer Wine cellars, visitors will receive a similiar tour of the winery.  Widmer is a much larger establishment and the  scale of the wine making is much larger here. Depending on  the winery tour guide, the tour will get a presentation on the "Solerno" (pronounced with a long o  in the -no) process used by Widmer to make heavy wines such as Sherry and Port. The visit to the winery will conclude with wine-tasting.
